One of two Turlock stabbing victims dies

A double-stabbing in Turlock on Sunday night has become a homicide.

Eva Gallardo, 44, died Tuesday from the wounds she suffered in a fight in the 700 block of West Olive Avenue.

Maribel Gonzalez, 40, who is suspected of the crime and was booked into Stanislaus County Jail on Sunday night, now faces a murder charge. Gonzalez, also is charged with attempted murder, is being held without bail.

Gallardo’s 26-year-old daughter suffered nonlife-threatening stab wounds and was treated at the scene. Her mother was taken to a nearby hospital with critical injuries, and two days later was taken off life-support, according to a family friend.

Officers were called to the scene of the fight at about 10:05 p.m. The fight started because Gonzalez was looking for her cellphone and believed the victims’ family members had taken it, said police Sgt. Stephen Webb.

A witness followed Gonzalez as she walked away from the scene and directed officers to her location, police said. Gonzalez was taken into custody without incident in the 600 block of Columbia Street.

Anyone with information about the incident is asked to call Detective Frank Navarro at (209) 664-7319.
