Turlock infant in hospital after attack by family’s pit bull
A 6-month-old girl was airlifted to a Sacramento hospital after she was bitten in the face by the family’s pit bull, police said Tuesday.
The infant was in a jumper eating a snack inside the family’s apartment in the 1000 block of Geer Road when the dog attacked Friday, said Turlock police Officer Steve Rodrigues. He said the girl’s mother had to intervene to get the pit bull to let go.
The baby suffered lacerations to her head, chin and neck.
A helicopter landed at nearby Crowell Elementary School and took the girl to UC Davis Medical Center.
Rodrigues did not know her condition Tuesday.
He said neither the dog nor the apartment’s address has a law enforcement history. The dog is being quarantined at the Turlock animal shelter for 10 days to check for rabies.
