Turlock turns out for Carnegie Arts Center’s birthday bash
Hundreds turned out Saturday to help the Carnegie Arts Center celebrate its 100th birthday.
The free event included a ceremony to mark the 1916 groundbreaking of what was then the Carnegie Library and included remarks by Turlock Mayor Gary Soiseth, as well as others.
Festivities included a variety of art galleries including a student art show, poetry, a reading tent, art projects, dance demonstrations and more. Many families with young children showed up to take part in the activities.
A donated bust of Andrew Carnegie – the steel magnate who built more than 1,600 libraries across the United States – also was on display. It later will be moved to a position outside the arts center.
