Turlock High evacuated for pool chemical mix up

Students were evacuated from Turlock High School Tuesday afternoon when a pool chemical supplier erroneously pumped acid into the chlorine tank of the school’s pool.

“Our Head of Maintenance and Operations contacted the Fire Department to determine the next steps,” read a statement released by the school. “On the Fire Marshal’s advice, we evacuated students from adjacent classrooms and set up a perimeter to protect students from walking into the contaminated area. “

The Turlock Fire Department responded to the scene and later contacted the Stanislaus County Department of Environmental Resources, which responded to assist in decontaminating the area.

No students were injured during this incident, however, the delivery driver was transported to a nearby hospital for a precautionary evaluation.

Scheduled water polo matches between Atwater and Turlock were postponed.
