The city of Turlock is considering raising trash fees for homes and businesses to offset county cost increases at the Fink Road Landfill and the waste-to-energy plant.

The typical single-family home would pay $2.30 more under the proposed one-time increase, raising the monthly bill from $25.10 per month to $27.40. If adopted, the new solid waste rates will become effective Dec. 1.

Turlock last approved a rate increase for Turlock Scavenger Co., the city’s waste hauler, in May 2003. Operational costs overall for Turlock Scavenger have increased, as well as the waste disposal facility fees, notes a news release from the city.

A notice of the proposed rate increase has been sent to all city of Turlock solid waste customers and a public hearing will be held at 6 p.m. Oct. 13 in the council chambers at City Hall, 156 S. Broadway. Written comments can also be submitted before the hearing.

For more information on the proposed rate or the public hearing, call the city of Turlock Municipal Services Department at 209-668-5590 weekdays from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m.
