Motorcyclist dies in Turlock crash

A 51-year-old motorcyclist died after colliding with a car Wednesday afternoon.

Randell Beede was traveling north on Ninth Street at about 4:45 p.m. when a southbound Toyota Camry attempting to turn left on Rockwood Avenue pulled in front of him, said Turlock police officer Mayra Lewis.

Officers found Beede lying in the roadway with major head injuries. He was not wearing a helmet, Lewis said.

He was taken by ambulance to an area hospital, where he was pronounced dead.

Lewis did not yet know the name of the 25-year-old driver of the Toyota. She said the driver was interviewed by officers at the scene and later released.

Drugs and alcohol are not a factor in the crash, Lewis said.

Turlock’s Major Accident Investigation Team is investigating whether other factors, like speed, contributed to the crash.

The collision occurred just one block from the intersection where a suspected drunk driver left the roadway and plowed into a family out for a walk last month.

That driver, Luis Miguel Cruz, 28, is charged in the deaths of Brian Flores, 4; his mother, Julia Flores, 20; and her mother-in-law, Elena Flores, 47.
