Pedestrian killed in early morning crash on Washington Road in Turlock
A 52-year-old Turlock man was killed early Monday morning when struck by a vehicle while walking in a traffic lane on Washington Road, according to the California Highway Patrol.
The crash was reported around 4:35 a.m. Monday on Washington Road south of Ehrlich Road, CHP officials said in a news release.
Emergency responders arrived and found a man lying in the roadway next to a Toyota SUV with crash damage. The pedestrian died at the scene.
Authorities said the man had been walking within the northbound traffic lane of Washington Road when he was struck.
Investigators said Irene Rodriguez, 52, of Hilmar, was driving a 2018 Toyota SUV north on Washington Road approaching Ehrlich Road when the front of the vehicle hit the pedestrian, causing him to fall to the ground.
Rodriguez was not injured in the collision and was wearing her seat belt, according to CHP. Investigators said she was not believed to be under the influence of drugs or alcohol.
The identity of the pedestrian will be released by the Stanislaus County Coroner’s Office once next of kin have been notified.
The crash remains under investigation.
