Turlock woman dies in solo rollover crash near Winton, CHP says
A 41-year-old Turlock woman was killed Monday night in a solo rollover crash in the Winton area, according to the California Highway Patrol.
The crash was reported at about 7:45 p.m. near Meadow Drive and West Lane, the CHP said. Officers arrived to find a pickup truck that had overturned. The driver was ejected from the vehicle.
Emergency personnel attempted lifesaving measures, including CPR, but the woman was pronounced dead at the scene, authorities said.
Investigators said the woman was driving a 2002 Ford Ranger pickup west on Meadow Drive, west of West Lane, at an unknown speed. For reasons still under investigation, the truck drifted onto the north dirt shoulder of the roadway.
The driver then overcorrected, causing the vehicle to cross both lanes of Meadow Drive and enter a dry canal on the south shoulder, according to the CHP. The truck struck the canal bank and overturned, ejecting the driver.
The crash remains under investigation, and it is not yet known whether drugs or alcohol were a factor.
Anyone who witnessed the crash or has information about the events leading up to it is asked to contact CHP Officer Escobar at 209-356-6600.
The CHP reminded motorists of the importance of wearing seat belts. “Wearing a seatbelt saves lives,” the agency said. “Buckle up every trip.”
