Update: Elderly man killed by train in Turlock ID’d by Coroner

A Stevinson man died the morning of Sept. 23after being struck by a Union Pacific train in downtown Turlock, according to police.

Turlock Police Department spokesperson Dominique Sanchez said the call came in about 8:29 a.m. The collision occurred at North Broadway and North Front Street. Steven Brewer, 73, of Stevinson was pronounced dead at the scene.

No other injuries were reported, Sanchez said.

Sanchez confirmed Monday, Sept. 29, that the incident was “self-inflicted.”

Multiple railroad crossings were closed because of the incident, including Golden State Boulevard at Fulkerth Road, Front Street at Broadway and Front Street at Canal Drive, while police and Union Pacific officials investigated.
