One person killed in traffic collision near Turlock, CHP reports

California Highway Patrol

One person was killed in a traffic collision late Friday morning near the intersection of Harding Avenue and Golf Road near Turlock, according to the California Highway Patrol.

The person killed was not wearing a seat belt at the time of the collision, according to the CHP’s press release. No identifying information about the deceased — gender, age, place of residence — was available Friday.

“The CHP would like to remind all motorists, seat belts, when worn properly, have the ability to save your life when involved in a traffic collision.”

CHP officers arrived at the scene at about 10:45 a.m. and found two vehicles with “major collision damage.” Initial findings show that the driver of a 2001 Honda was eastbound on Harding and stopped at a stop sign at the intersection.

The driver then accelerated out of the stop and into the path of 2013 Chevrolet driven by a 19-year-old Turlock resident. The Chevrolet driver was heading south on Golf, which has the right of way and is not required to stop at that particular intersection.

The Chevrolet broadsided the Honda, which caused both vehicles to “proceed in a southerly direction” before coming to a stop south of the intersection. The Honda driver was pronounced dead at the scene. The Turlock teen was not injured.

CHP’s release stated that, as of Friday afternoon, it was unknown if drugs or alcohol contributed to the collision.
