Victim of fatal shooting at Turlock sideshow identified, more details released

Modesto Bee file

A Tracy man shot to death at an illegal sideshow in Turlock has been identified, and a third shooting victim has been tied to the incident.

The shooting occurred during a sideshow at Fulkerth and Tegner roads at 1 a.m. Saturday. More than 100 people had reassembled there after law enforcement broke up an initial sideshow at South Avenue and Orange Street about an hour earlier.

Turlock police heard the gunshots as they were responding to break up the second sideshow, according to a press release. Vehicles were fleeing from the area as police arrived. Officers quickly located two gunshot victims.

Officers performed lifesaving measures on an unresponsive gunshot victim but he was declared dead at the scene. He was identified on Tuesday as Dayron Ledezma, a 20-year-old Tracy resident.

The second man was transported to a local area hospital for treatment of injuries that were not life-threatening. A third man who showed up at an area hospital with a gunshot wound claimed it did not occur at the sideshow but investigators have determined it did, said Sgt. Mike Parmley.

He said investigators believe the shooting was a result of an ongoing conflict that began prior to the events of the sideshow, but he would not elaborate.

Parmley said he could not release details about whether more than one weapon was fired or if either of the surviving gunshot victims is a suspect. Both have been released from the hospital and neither has been charged with anything related to the shooting, Parmley said.

There also were multiple crashes, including a fleeing subject who ran into a Turlock police vehicle and a man who was fleeing police and crashed into a drunk driver unrelated to the sideshow. Both of those men were arrested and no one was seriously injured in any of the crashes.
