Modesto man dies after vehicle hits him near Turlock

A Modesto man died early Friday morning when he was hit by a vehicle on Golden State Boulevard north of Turlock.

The incident occurred shortly after midnight, south of Barnhart Road, according to the California Highway Patrol.

A 22-year-old Turlock woman was driving a Ford south on Golden State as a man was walking in the middle of the southbound lane.

According to the CHP, there is limited lighting in the area and the pedestrian was wearing all black clothing. The driver of the Ford did not see the pedestrian and hit him at speeds of about 40 to 45 mph.

The pedestrian, identified by the Stanislaus County Coroner’s Office as 51-year-old Michael Burks, was taken to a hospital, where succumbed to his injuries.
