A woman who was found mortally wounded on the side of a country road west of Turlock on Thursday morning was the victim of a hit and run, according to the California Highway Patrol.

Michelle Mims, 42, of Turlock, was found around 7 a.m. on West Main Street, just east of Morgan Road. She was pronounced dead at the scene.

Investigators determined she was hit by a vehicle, but there were no witnesses, so the time of the collision and a vehicle description are unknown, according to the CHP.

Public records show Mims lived very close to the location of the collision.

The scene was just a mile away from another fatal collision involving a pedestrian last week. Jose Mendez-Alonzo was hit by a PT Cruiser in the eastbound lane of Main Street, west of Crows Landing Road. The driver stopped at the scene and was cooperative with investigators.

Any witnesses to Thursday morning’s crash are urged to contact Stanislaus Area Crime Stoppers at 209-521-4636. Callers can remain anonymous and may be eligible for a cash reward. Tips also can be submitted via www.stancrimetips.org.
