Turlock Chamber president Silva announces retirement

The Turlock Chamber and Convention and Visitors Bureau is losing its leader.

After more than 16 years as president and chief executive officer, Sharon Silva announced her retirement effective next Tuesday.

She will remain on in an executive role to ensure a smooth transition with a new CEO, according to a news release released Tuesday from Kyle Kirkes, chairman of the board.

Silva also served as executive director of the Turlock Downtown Association and developed the Propery Business and Improvement District.

“I was extremely saddened to hear the news that Sharon would be retiring ...,” Kirkes said. “I am extremely excited for her to start this next chapter in her life and enjoy her retirement.”

Silva served three years on the board before taking the reins. During her time, she won several awards, including Citizen of the Year and Executive Director of the Year for the California Main Street Program.

There was no timetable on when a new president/CEO would be hired.

“I’m confident that the Chamber, with its excellent Board of Directors and motivated and skilled staff, will continue to be a strong voice for business in the Turlock Community,” Kirkes said.
