Driver critically injured in collision with big rig’s milk tanker in Turlock
A driver suffered life-threatening injuries when his car crashed into a milk tanker truck on Wednesday morning on Lander Avenue in Turlock, police say.
The collision occurred about 10 a.m. at the intersection of Lander and West F Street, Sgt. Michael Parmley said. It involved a silver Jeep Cherokee and a red Peterbilt big rig hauling the milk tanker.
The driver of the Jeep was northbound on Lander, which has no traffic control at the intersection. The driver of the truck was making a left-hand turn onto southbound Lander from the stop sign at West F, Parmley said.
The Jeep struck the trailer and became wedged well beneath it. Its driver was airlifted to a local hospital, where he remained Thursday morning.
Police believe they know who the twenty-something man is, but officers have not been able to talk with him yet or otherwise positively confirm his identity, Parmley said.
“Our Major Accidents Investigation Team is still trying to determine the primary collision factors,” and alcohol has not been determined to be among them, the sergeant said. “Witnesses provided statements and the incident was captured on video,” which is not being released because it is considered evidence as the investigation continues.
The crash scene investigation closed Lander between Linwood and South avenues until 4 p.m.
