Update: Off-duty officer finds, detains suspect in Turlock hit-and-run
Police have found and arrested a man who fled the scene of an injury accident on East Hawkeye Avenue in Turlock.
Sgt. Mike Parmely said the man was driving a Chevrolet pickup that was reported stolen out of Merced County when the accident occurred west of North Quincy Road shortly after 1 p.m.
At least one person in the vehicle the Chevrolet collided with suffered minor injuries.
A police helicopter and K9 are were involved in the search for the suspect, who left the scene on foot.
The suspect, identified as Andrew Huddleston, 37, of Hughson, was found hiding in the back yard of a home in the 1600 block of Smith Drive, roughly a block away from the accident scene. An off-duty officer found Huddleston and held him until police returned., Parmley said.
He will be booked on a felony burglary warrant as well as charges of possession of a stolen vehicleand auto theft and two counts of hit and run with injury, Parmley said.
