Firefighters responding to a trailer fire in Denair late Saturday were told the occupant was unaccounted for, and they later recovered a man’s body from inside the vehicle.

Denair Fire Protection District crews were dispatched to the fire on the 4100 block of East Monte Vista Avenue about 11:38 p.m., according to a Facebook post by the department. They found the trailer in the backyard of a residence there burning heavily. Residents said they could not locate the person who lived in the trailer.

Because of the severity of the fire, firefighters were not immediately able to enter the trailer. After bringing it under control, they located and removed one body from within. The victim was a 44-year-old man, Denair Fire Chief Aaron Mundello said Sunday.

The origin and cause of the blaze are under investigation by the Stanislaus Regional Fire Investigation Unit.

The victim’s identity was withheld pending family notification by the Stanislaus County Coroner’s Office.
