Stanislaus County Fair adds 2 attractions for this year’s run
The Stanislaus County Fair on Thursday announced two new attractions – the Butterfly Discovery Center and the Mind Works exhibit – for this summer’s 10-day run.
The Butterfly Discovery Center, sponsored by Sutter Gould Medical Foundation, features two exhibit galleries. The first contains a butterfly feeding program and Flutter Garden. The second is the Exploratorium, which showcases the life and diversity of butterflies and moths through graphics, video and interactive exhibits.
Mind Works, presented by Sky Trek Aviation, replaces Wizard’s Challenge. The 5,000-square-foot attraction features a collection of puzzles; oversize classic games such as Jenga, Twister, pick-up sticks – even Chutes & Ladders, with players as moving game pieces; a bubble arena; a construction zone; and a toddler area.
Many of the displays in the Mind Works interactive exhibit are STEM (science, technology, engineering and math)-based and involve critical thinking, problem-solving and teamwork, according to a news release from the fair. Uniformed, trained staff will moderate the games, offer puzzle hints and even join in.
“We try to make each fair better than the year before, and having new exhibits achieves that,” said fair spokeswoman Adrenna Alkhas. “We are extremely excited to have such wonderful hands-on attractions at this year’s fair.”
The 2015 Stanislaus County Fair opens July 10. Discounted fair admission tickets, unlimited-ride wristbands and season passes are on sale through July 9 at 7 p.m. Go to www.stancofair.com for ticket sale information.
