TID transformer failure leaves some Modesto-Ceres customers without power
A transformer failure at the Turlock Irrigation District’s Crows Landing substation had an undetermined number of customers without power for at most a little more than an hour this morning, public information officer Calvin Curtin said. “We don’t know the exact cause, but it was heavily damaged and failed, which shuts down the substation, which is the way that’s supposed to work.”
TID workers isolated the bad circuit and quickly restored power to some customers in the affected area, Curtin said. The utlity was “backfeeding” – rerouting power from other substations – with a goal of restoring service to all customers by about 11:45 a.m. “We can throw a few switches in the power control center once we determine it’s safe to do so.”
The affected area largely was around lower Hatch Road east of Mitchell Road, Curtin said, and a few pockets west of Highway 99. The failure occurred about 10:28 a.m.
TID customers can keep informed of power failures by visiting tid.org/outages or following the district’s Twitter feed, @TurlockID, he said.
