Bee in Turlock: Art walk coming to town
Turlock is becoming the latest city to implement a regular art walk.
According to Lisa McDermott, director of the Carnegie Arts Center, “Art Around Town” will take place the second Thursday of May, July and September from 6 to 9 p.m.
The idea came from a committee of art enthusiasts and supporters who wanted to show off the art and culture Turlock has to offer, McDermott said in a news release.
The free event is designed to be family-friendly, with musicians and artists featured at arts venues and participating businesses.
As of Wednesday, the following businesses had signed on: the Carnegie Arts Center, 250 N. Broadway Ave.; First Street Gallery & Frame Co., 226 N. First St.; Art Space on Main, 135 W. Main St.; The Gallery Finesse, 128 N. Center St.; the Community Art Gallery at Rex Klein Insurance Services, 132 S. Center St.; and Colossal Tattoo, 429 E. Main St.
More information is available on the event’s Facebook page, Art Around Town, Turlock.
ELSEWHERE AROUND TOWN: The city’s spring T-ball and peewee baseball programs are in jeopardy of not starting on time in the middle of May.
According to the Parks, Recreation and Public Facilities Department, a shortage of coaches is threatening the start time of this year’s programs.
Officials ask anyone who might be qualified and interested to call (209) 668-5594.
▪ GDI Insurance will host its annual Community Safety Saturday on May 16.
The annual event will take place at the insurance office, 801 Geer Road, from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m.
In the five years the event has been taking place, it’s grown each year, Matthew Davis, vice president of GDI Insurance Agency, said in a news release.
The event includes car-seat inspections; crime prevention and safety tips; crafts; and information on a variety of groups and activities. Emergency responders will bring vehicles for children to examine, and a Stanislaus County sheriff’s K-9 team will give demonstrations.
