At long last, major Turlock intersection to reopen

Just in time for Thanksgiving and Black Friday traffic, one of Turlock’s busiest intersections at last will reopen for business.

The intersection at Fulkerth Road and Golden State Boulevard has been closed since July for extensive work including new bike lanes, sidewalks and railroad traffic signaling. It has meant detours in the area, and some business owners have reported losses. Officials originally thought it would reopen in August, then September.

But according to a statement issued Tuesday night from the city of Turlock, it would reopen Wednesday evening.

“The City of Turlock anticipates the Fulkerth and Golden State Intersection will open Wednesday night,” the statement said. “The city of Turlock appreciates the community's patience as we increased the safety and efficiency of this highly used intersection. The intersection will now have protected left hand turn lanes, safer railroad crossings, more efficient traffic flow, and (Americans with Disabilities Act) upgrades.”
