Police arrested a Turlock man Tuesday on suspicion of failing to register as a sex offender, a day after he was accused of bothering females in Donnelly Park.

Officers contacted Anjelo Kanef, 29, after complaints that he was “making rude and obscene gestures to females walking by” at about 8:15 a.m. Monday, according to a Facebook post by the Turlock Police Department. Kanef was sitting in a car with a laptop computer “with pornography on it as well as other adult products,” the post said.

No victims came forward, police said, so Kanef was arrested and cited for possession of narcotics paraphernalia and released. Officers learned that he was on probation for three indecent exposure convictions, the post said, but the requirement that he register as a sex offender had not yet made it into computer records.

Detective Tim Redd, who was listening to the call on Monday, verified with the court Tuesday, that Kanef was supposed to have registered at the start of May. On Tuesday morning, Kanef was a arrested on suspicion of failing to register as a sex offender.

Anyone with information about the case can call Redd at 209-664-7325.
