Bicyclist, 63, dies after Highway 120 crash east of 26-Mile Road in Stanislaus
A 63-year-old bicyclist died following a collision Jan. 9 on westbound State Route 120 east of 26-Mile Road, according to the California Highway Patrol.
Patrick McCulloch was driving a 2007 Ford pickup west on SR-120 when the bicyclist, who was riding east on the north shoulder, swerved into the lane directly in front of the vehicle, the CHP reported. The front of the pickup struck the bicyclist. Officers responded to the scene at about 6:19 p.m.
The bicyclist, Wayne Townsend of Oakdale, was taken to Memorial Medical Center, where he later died.
McCulloch was not injured in the crash and was not found to be under the influence of alcohol or drugs. It was not immediately known whether Townsend was under the influence, according to the CHP.
A GoFundMe was created for Townsend to help cover cremation costs and a memorial. It has raised about 45% of its $1,300 goal as of Friday.
“His girlfriend, Marty Oliver, would like to remember Wayne by being able to have Wayne cremated and given a memorial/celebration of life,” reads the fundraiser. “Marty was a big part of Wayne’s life for the past 9 years, and he will be sorely missed.”
