Big-rig driver killed after being run over by his own truck at ConAgra plant in Oakdale
A Keyes man died early Wednesday morning when he was run over by his own big rig at the ConAgra Foods plant in Oakdale.
The incident is an “industrial accident that will be investigated as a fatal collision,” said Oakdale Police Chief Jerry Ramar.
The man, identified by the Stanislaus County Coroner’s Office as 27-year-old Ismael Carrillo-Garcia, was at a loading dock at the Yosemite Avenue cannery just after 1 a.m. delivering pallets of empty cans.
Ramar said the preliminary investigation indicates Carrillo-Garcia was in the trailer of the big rig pushing the pallets toward the rear so the forklift driver could pick them up.
The forklift driver noticed the big rig was rolling forward and alerted Carrillo-Garcia.
He got out of the trailer and began running toward the cab in order to stop the big rig but tripped and fell and was run over, Ramar said. Carrillo-Garcia died at the scene.
In addition to the investigation by Oakdale Police, Ramar said Cal/OSHA was notified of the incident. A representative from ConAgra could not immediately be reached for comment.
