A man who died in a crash on Highway 99 in Turlock on Friday morning has been identified by the Stanislaus County Coroner’s Office as a 54-year-old Arthur Saarloos.

The California Highway Patrol had identified Saarloos as a Hughson resident but a coroner official on Monday said he lived in Oakdale.

Saarloos was driving a Chevrolet sports utility vehicle south on the highway near Fulkerth Road around 6:20 a.m. when it drifted from the slow lane to the middle lane, according to the CHP.

He turned sharply to the right, sending the SUV over the shoulder of the road, where it overturned several times.

Saarloos was not wearing a seatbelt and was ejected from the SUV. The vehicle landed on top of him and he died at the scene.

The cause of the crash remains under investigation.
