Modesto Bee file

The Stanislaus County Coroner’s Office has released the identity of the 18-year-old man who died late Saturday after falling from a truck in Oakdale.

The victim, Joseph Casas of Oakdale, was hanging out of the moving vehicle’s passenger side window when he fell. Oakdale Police Department officers were dispatched to the 200 block of North Oak around midnight, but despite lifesaving efforts, Casas died at the scene.

A total of six juveniles, including the driver, were in the vehicle at the time of the incident, the news release states. It further states that alcohol and speed do not appear to be factors.

Casas was a senior at Oakdale High School. Oakdale Joint Unified School District will make grief counseling and accommodations available for students when they return Jan. 4.

Meanwhile, the school district advises families to seek emotional support over the winter break through their health insurance or via local support services like Jessica’s House in Turlock.

A gofundme page, titled “Helping hand,” has been set up to help the family.
