Man who died in triple stabbing in Oakdale identified
The man fatally stabbed at an Oakdale apartment building Wednesday morning was Jackie Franklin King, 37, of Oakdale, according to the Stanislaus County Coroner’s Office.
His alleged killer, 28-year-old George Taylor Grass, remained in custody without bail Thursday. He faces charges of murder, inflicting corporal injury, resisting a peace officer, arson and assault with a deadly weapon other than a firearm.
Two women in their 20s also were stabbed in the incident on the 100 block South Sixth Street. Their wounds were not life-threatening, police said.
Chief Scott Heller told The Bee on Thursday that the women were treated and released Wednesday afternoon.
The report of a stabbing in progress was made at 10:48 a.m. Grass surrendered a few hours later after barricading himself in an upstairs apartment, Heller said at the scene.
All parties involved knew one another, the chief said Thursday. “We’re still investigating the motive.”
The charge of corporal injury suggests one of the victims is Grass’ spouse or cohabitant. The arson charge may stem from Grass allegedly breaking an apartment window and tossing lighted fireworks at police officers, sheriff’s deputies and other emergency responders.
Anyone with information on the stabbings is asked to contact the Oakdale Police Department at 209-847-2231 or Stanislaus Area Crime Stoppers at 209-521-4636. Tipsters may also text information to Crime Stoppers at 274637.
