Former Oakdale soccer coach, convicted of raping teen in 2012, has been arrested again
A former Oakdale soccer coach who in 2013 was convicted of raping a 16-year-old girl he coached has again been arrested on suspicion of indecent exposure and attempted kidnapping.
The Oakdale Police Department last week posted photos of a man they said exposed himself near the CVS Pharmacy on North Maag Avenue.
The incident occurred around 9 a.m. on May 21.
A woman walking in the area told police the man was parked in a white SUV when she saw him exposing himself. According to Oakdale Police, he began following the woman as she walked and he yelled at her to get into the vehicle.
Lt. Jerry Ramar said the man got out of the vehicle and came around to the side nearest the woman but got back in when she pulled out a cell phone to take pictures of him.
Before the man drove away, she captured a photo of him, which was posted on the Department’s Facebook page.
Investigators received information from several sources directing them to 52-year-old Timothy Lyman, a sex registrant from Empire, according to a news release.
An arrest warrant was obtained for Lyman, who turned himself in at the Oakdale Police Department on Wednesday night.
2012 assault occurred during a party with teens
Lyman was a soccer coach in Oakdale in December 2012 when he hosted a party at his home, which was then on H Street in Oakdale.
According testimony in court, Lyman furnished alcohol to minors at the party. He was the only adult there.
The victim was intoxicated when she fell asleep on a bed and awoke to Lyman having sex with her.
Lyman pleaded no contest to rape of an unconscious person and was sentenced to a year in prison.
Oakdale Police are still looking for the white SUV, which appears to be an Infiniti QX60, used during the incident last week. Ramar said it is unknown to whom it belongs.
Lyman is currently being held on $100,000 bail.
At the time of his arrest in 2013 Oakdale Police did not say which soccer organization Lyman was affiliated with. He was not working for Oakdale Soccer Club, said Ami Poncabare, the club’s President.
