U.S. Army Corps of Engineers looks to fill positions, including in Oakdale

With more than 200 job vacancies to fill in the coming months, the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers Sacramento District will hold a job fair Wednesday in downtown Sacramento to help applicants navigate the process.

Among the expected vacancies are permanent, limited-term and student positions at the district’s Sacramento headquarters and its field offices throughout the western United States. The corps operates Stanislaus River Parks and has a field office in Oakdale, where two internships currently are posted. One is for a student trainee park ranger and has a pay range of $28,553 to $37,121 a year; the other is student trainee laborer and has a pay range of $15.96 to $18.63 per hour.

“In addition to offices for recreation facilities, we have field offices in Folsom, Monterey, West Sacramento, Sacramento, and at Hill Air Force Base, Utah, for construction,” corps spokesman Tyler M. Stalker told The Modesto Bee in an email Friday morning. “Also, we have regulatory field offices in Bountiful, Utah; Durango and Grand Junction, Colorado; Redding; and Reno.”

Wednesday’s event will be held from 9 a.m. to noon at the Grand Ballroom, 1215 J St. in downtown Sacramento. Corps representatives will be on hand to discuss positions, job requirements and answer any questions about working for the corps.

“The Corps of Engineers is the nation’s premier engineering agency, but we do so much more than engineering,” said Col. Michael Farrell, commander of the corps’ Sacramento District, in a news release. “We also employ park rangers, biologists, real estate and contract specialists, administrative and maintenance staff, archaeologists and journalists, to name just a few. Working for the corps offers great training, mobility and experience, and a secure and rewarding career in public service.”

The U.S. Army Corps of Engineers Sacramento District provides flood risk reduction, navigation, watershed planning, ecosystem and recreation services in parts of eight Western states: California, Nevada, Utah, Arizona, Colorado, Idaho, Oregon and Wyoming.
