Modesto Police: Downey staff members assaulted; citations issued

Several students assaulted staff members at Modesto’s Downey High School on Tuesday afternoon, authorities said.

Two students and a parent were cited for battery following the incident that occurred at 12:15 p.m., according to Heather Graves, spokeswoman for the Modesto Police Department.

Graves did not have any information about which staff members were assaulted and what injuries, if any, they might have suffered.

Police were called to the campus just after noon on a report of a fight and a large group of students gathering in an area on campus. As police began arriving, the group dispersed.

The school was placed on lockdown.

Officials at the school and with Modesto City Schools were not immediately available for comment.

We’ll have more on this story as information becomes available.
