Final Family Fun Night this Friday in south Modesto

The 10th annual Family Fun Night Kids Celebration will kick off at 6:30 p.m. Friday at the Apostolic Jubilee Center, offering activities, food and student performances – all free.

The Enochs High Biotech Club and the Great Valley Museum will bring interactive science activities. Stylists will offer free haircuts. Kids can get free backpacks for school, jump in bounce houses and take a turn on a rock climbing apparatus. Families can find community resources and enjoy lots of family fun, said organizer Jorge Perez.

Representatives from Modesto Junior College, California State University, Stanislaus, and the University of California, Davis, will be there to provide information to students and families. College students from south Modesto will also be on hand, including Emanuel Escamilla, who is attending Harvard University, and Marybel Cortez, who is attending Stanislaus State.

The evening is a collaboration of the Apostolic Jubilee Center and Modesto City Schools and other organizations. It is the last of the Friday family nights series for the summer. It will also be a special celebration for Apostolic Jubilee Center, coordinator Jorge Perez said.

“Ten years ago the late Bishop Julian Aguirre Jr. had a vision to step outside the walls of his church to serve the community with close to 100 people in attendance on the first Family Fun Night. Today, his vision is still alive with more than 1,000 people attending each Family Fun Night,” Perez said.

The communitywide model merges public and private sectors to build positive relationships and celebrate the community’s strengths.
