Ceres seeks feedback on keeping kids safe amid traffic
Traffic problems near two schools have prompted the city to seek a grant for street improvements along East Whitmore Avenue.
A community forum Tuesday evening at Cesar Chavez Junior High will gather neighborhood input and ideas, as required for the Safe Routes to School grant application. Ceres Partnership for Healthy Children will host the forum.
The group also will organize a walk-to-school event for La Rosa Elementary and Chavez Junior High students, the schools on Eastgate Boulevard directly south of Whitmore.
At the community forum, parents, students, community members, teachers and other school staff will be asked to share with Ceres officials their thoughts and concerns about safety, health and traffic on Whitmore Avenue from Mitchell Road to Eastgate Boulevard.
“This is an opportunity for everyone to weigh in and help improve conditions for walking and bicycling for families living in the La Rosa and Cesar Chavez school boundaries. We hope many people will feel inclined to join us,” said Lourdes Perez, CPHC program coordinator.
