SYLVAN UNION BOARD TO MEET

The Sylvan Union School District board will meet for a budget study session at 5 p.m. Tuesday at the district boardroom, 605 Sylvan Ave. There will be a sunshine proposal, the first step for negotiations, for the support staff 2014-15 contract, followed by an overview and discussion of the budget. DAVIS HIGH INFORMATION NIGHT

Davis High will hold a parent meeting at 6:30 p.m. Wednesday with information about the “Spartans 101: Middle College” program that gives students an opportunity to take MJC classes during their high school day and earn college credits. Students can earn up to 18 units, at no cost, through Spartans 101, in addition to any Advanced Placement credit earned in high school AP courses. The meeting will be in the Little Theater on campus, 1200 W. Rumble Road, Modesto.

SUMMER MEALS PROVIDERS SOUGHT

The California Department of Education is urging schools, camps and nonprofits to become Summer Food Service Program sponsors, providing free meals to underprivileged children. Reimbursement is based on the number of meals served meeting federal meal requirements. The meal sites must be in areas where at least half the students are low income, operating 15 days after school ends for summer break. Children can go to any site to receive free meals, no income verification needed. The CDE maintains a Summer Meal Service Sites map to help families locate meal sites close to their homes.
