Colleges offer summer courses for kids
Institutions of higher learning have summer science and math camps for the younger set.
Modesto Junior College
Modesto Junior College will have weekly science camps for ages 4 to 12. Each session runs Tuesday, Wednesday and Thursday beginning Tuesday and ending July 28. All start at 10 a.m., with ages 4 to 5 getting out at 11 a.m., ages 6 to 8 at 11:30 a.m. and ages 9 to 12 at noon. Cost for each three-day session is $80, with a discount for members.
The topics will be water issues in the valley; a build-it-yourself beginning physics class; All Things Matter on chemistry and molecules; and animal programs. All classes will be held in the Great Valley Museum in the first floor of the Science Community Center on the west campus of MJC, 2201 Blue Gum Ave.

Stanislaus State
July 18-22: Geometry Summer Camp 2016 aims to help students in grades 7 through 9 with an introduction to geometry, laying the foundations for success.
July 25-29: Algebra Camp 2016, also for students in grades 7 through 9, is designed to give the students an understanding of algebraic concepts using algebra tiles, algebra balance, learning wraps and more.
Cost for each is $50 if paid by July 15, $75 after that date. Both will run 9 from a.m. to noon each day at Demergasso-Bava Hall Room 133, California State University, Stanislaus, 1 University Circle, Turlock.
