District parent Daniel Sexton will join the Hughson Unified School District board of trustees, filling the vacancy created by the resignation of Mark Harman in November.

The board voted unanimously Thursday for the appointment out of a field of five applicants. As required by law, the appointment is provisional for 30 days, becoming final automatically unless enough registered voters petition to call a special election.

Sexton, 47, is a sales rep for a distributor of high-end interior building materials, he said Friday. A graduate in the Hughson High Class of 1986, he has one child who is a junior and one who graduated in 2014.

The son of former Mayor Jim Sexton, he said his dad inspired him to apply.

“I’m honored,” he said of the appointment. “I want to give something back, to help continue the tradition of great education that Hughson’s always had.”
