Our Lady of Fatima School to hold open house

Our Lady of Fatima School in Modesto will celebrate National Catholic Schools Week with an open house 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. Sunday following Mass, at 505 W. Granger Ave.

The school’s student council officers will provide tours for prospective families and the community. There will be refreshments and displays of children’s work. Kate Hart O’Brien will be honored as a distinguished graduate.

Student projects are on display in the classrooms, and all teachers are available to answer questions. Student representatives from each class will speak about what they like about a Catholic education.

The national celebration is Sunday through Jan. 31, with a theme this year of “Catholic Schools: Communities of Faith, Knowledge and Service.” The theme focuses on three priorities that make Catholic schools stand out from other educational institutions.

In a statement, the school said children are taught faith – not just the basics of Christianity, but how to have a relationship with God; knowledge, for the high standards maintained; and service, taught as an expression of faith and good citizenship.

Catholic Schools Week is a joint project of NCEA and the U.S. Conference of Catholic Bishops. For more about the week, visit the NCEA website, www.ncea.org/news/CatholicSchoolsWeek.asp.
