Voting in the 2016 10th District Congressional Art Competition has opened on the Facebook page of U.S. Rep. Jeff Denham.

The competition highlights the talents of Central Valley students each year and includes an opportunity for the winning student to have his or her artwork featured in Washington, D.C., in the Capitol building.

All 20 submissions for this year’s competition are viewable at www.facebook.com/repjeffdenham. Voting – a vote is cast by “liking” a piece of art – will close at midnight March 7. The top five submissions as determined by Facebook popularity will be submitted to a panel of judges for determination of the winner. A public reception to honor the participants and announce the winner will be held March 8.

The winning student and one guest will be invited to an awards ceremony hosted on Capitol Hill this summer. This student also will be able to see his or her artwork displayed in the national exhibition located in the Cannon Tunnel of the Capitol. A scholarship may also be offered to the winner to fly to D.C. for the reception and announcement of the national winner.

Second- and third-place winners will have the opportunity to display their art in Denham’s Modesto district office.

More information, including a list of official guidelines, is available through Denham’s website, http://denham.house.gov/serving-you/congressional-art-competition.
