Nonprofit offers $1,500 scholarships to Stanislaus County students

The Central Valley Opportunity Center is offering six $1,500 scholarships in each county it serves: Stanislaus, Merced and Mariposa.

Students must have a minimum cumulative GPA of 3.0 and plan to attend a post-secondary educational institution in fall 2016. Financial need will be considered.

Applications are available at all high schools in the three counties. Interested students need to contact their high school counselor, or contact Alicia Chavez at achavez@cvoc.org or 209-357-0062, ext. 123. The scholarship application may also be downloaded at www.cvoc.org. The application deadline is April 1.

The Central Valley Opportunity Center, a nonprofit social service agency, has been offering employment training, food and emergency shelter, home weatherization and other services for more than 37 years in the three counties. It offers vocational training in welding, computers/customer service, truck driving/forklift and solar panel installation.

CVOC is funded primarily through federal, state and local grants to serve farmworker and low-income populations.
