Youth Mentoring Summit offers speakers, workshops

A Youth Mentoring Summit for community members, businesses and organizations will be held Jan. 23 in Modesto. Deadline for registration is Friday.

The event will feature guest speakers James Kooler of Statewide Youth Development Programs, Stanislaus County Superintendent Tom Changnon and Kathy Witkowicki, founder and executive director of the Sonoma Valley Mentoring Alliance.

The Sonoma nonprofit provides one-on-one mentoring for at-risk youth. Witkowicki’s expertise is in implementing strong practices for school and community-based mentoring programs.

The summit will run from 7:15 a.m. to noon Jan. 23 at the Martin Petersen Event Center, 720 12th St., Modesto. Cost is $25. Sign-in and breakfast will end at 8 a.m., followed by the speakers.

Workshops, 9:45 a.m. to noon, include mentor monitoring and support, matching and closure, business-school partnering and mentoring boundaries.
