Students invited to apply, audition for Sierra Music Scholarships

Applications for Sierra Music Scholarships must be received by Jan. 15. Auditions for the awards will be held Feb. 6 at St. James Episcopal Church in Sonora.

Scholarships will be awarded in two categories, ages 10-14 and 15-20. The competition is open to students of classical instrumental and vocal music involved in private study in Tuolumne and Calaveras counties. The first-place winner in each category will be awarded $500, and second place $400.

Scholarship recipients will take part in the Feb. 21 performance featured as part of the St. James Concert Series.

The scholarship fund, managed by the Sonora Area Foundation, was established in 1998 and has awarded $13,000 to 57 students. Tax-deductible donations may be made to the Sonora Area Foundation and marked for the Sierra Music Scholarship Fund.

For application and audition details, visit www.sjconcertseries.org or contact Steve Taylor at 209-586-0529.
