Enochs, Beyer compete in Western Band Association Grand Championships
The Enochs High School Marching Band and Color Guard and the Beyer High School Patriot Band and Guard competed in the finals of the Western Band Association Grand Championships on Sunday in Bulldog Stadium at California State University, Fresno. In a field of 15 bands, Enochs placed 12th and Beyer 14th.
Of the Enochs band and guard, booster Kimberly Wirtz said, “This is the first time in the school’s history that they made it to finals, and they have continually broken their own scoring records in competition.”
The championships were won by Trabuco Hills High School of Mission Viejo, with a score of 89.25. The Enochs performers, 75 strong under the direction of Phil Vallejo, scored 78.90, with its program, “What If.”
“It’s about a girl who was killed in a school shooting (fictionally in this case) and revolves around, ‘What if she had lived?’” ... A really moving show,” Band Boosters President Gary Nance said.
The Beyer Patriot Band and Guard, 72 members under the direction of Marcos Rivera, scored 75.85 with its program, “Perfect Human.”
