Modesto high schools to hold Food for Flicks charity faceoff

Modesto high schools are competing for a good cause, collecting canned goods for a Thanksgiving food drive.

The Inter High Council is staging Food for Flicks, a students-only movie night Saturday at the Enochs High gym, where the price of admission is canned food.

“The school that brings the most canned goods to the event wins a flat screen TV, donated by Mercer Foods, for their school,” said Riley Noland, Inter High Council president.

“Batman Begins,” the 2005 film starting Christian Bale, will be the featured flick. All the canned goods and money collected from food sales that night will be donated to Inter-Faith Ministries.

The Inter High Council is made up of student body officers from the district’s seven regular high schools and the Modesto City Schools board student member, which this year is Noland.

“This is a great example of our district high schools working together to make a difference in our community,” Noland said via email. “We hope to get as many students as possible involved.”

The screening will be at 7 p.m. Nov. 22 at the Enochs High gymnasium, 3201 Sylvan Ave., Modesto. Students will need their student ID for entry. Snacks will be available for purchase.
