See the stars come out at MJC Telescope Night
See the stars in the sky and on the ceiling on Friday at Modesto Junior College’s Science Community Center. Telescope Night will be offered in the roof observatory, with planetarium shows available downstairs.
The Modesto Junior College Astronomy Club will be on hand from 6 to 8 p.m. for free viewings on the fourth floor of the science center on the west campus, 2201 Blue Gum Ave. All ages are invited and campus parking is free for the evening.
Telescope Night provides community members with opportunities to learn about space using the Science Community Center’s multiple 12-inch telescopes and a 28-inch telescope/camera.
Each telescope will be staffed by a member of the MJC Astronomy Club, to help with viewing and answer questions. Snacks and refreshments will be available for purchase with proceeds benefiting the student-based club.
The Great Valley Museum will also be offering planetarium shows at 6:15 p.m. and 7:15 p.m. in the state-of-the-art planetarium. GVM invites the public for showings of the full-dome, digital video feature “The Ultimate Universe” at the Telescope Night price of $4, or $3 for children 4 to 11 years old. Children under 4 will not be admitted to the planetarium.
