Great Valley Writing Project seminar on teaching English learners

The Great Valley Writing Project is hosting a demonstration of research-based approaches for teaching English learners from 8 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. on Sept. 26 at Demergrasso-Bava Hall, California State University, Stanislaus, 1 University Circle, Turlock. Included are findings on social interaction for development; instruction that integrates listening, speaking, reading and writing across disciplines; writing to increase comprehension; and technology approaches and tools. Saturday classes go from STEM to STREAM

The HiMAP Academy, open to fifth-graders through high schoolers, is adding to its Science-Technology-Engineering-Math focus to be a STREAM Academy, to include R for reading/writing and A for arts. Its first session will be Sept. 12 at California State University, Stanislaus, 1 University Circle, Turlock. The program costs $300 for the 2015-16 year.
