EDUCATION FOUNDATION TO HOLD BOOK FAIR

The Stanislaus Union Education Foundation will hold a book fair Saturday to raise funds to purchase books for the district’s six school libraries. The event will be from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. at the Barnes & Noble bookstore, 3501 McHenry Ave., Modesto. There will be drawings for Barnes & Noble gift certificates, a performance by the Prescott Junior High School choir, dramatic presentations and a poetry slam exhibition. Student-made bookmarks will be provided at the point of sale. Also on tap will be activities for children, and a VIP reader will provide a story time opportunity for children every 15 minutes. HICKMAN CHARTER CELEBRATES 20 YEARS

Hickman Charter School will celebrate its 20th anniversary from 1:30 to 3 p.m. Nov. 12 at the campus, 13306 Fourth St., Hickman. In November 1994, it became the first charter school in the Northern San Joaquin Valley. Alumni and community members are invited, said Superintendent Paul Gardner.
