Emmy-nominated ‘Science Wizard’ to perform at MJC and at Modesto and Oakdale grade schools
Emmy-nominated science magician David Hagerman will bring his blend of science and magic for students in Modesto and Oakdale in April.
Hagerman, known as the “science wizard,” will perform his “Extreme Science 2.0” show at Fair Oaks Elementary School in Oakdale and on the Modesto Junior College West Campus on Friday, April 11, and at Rose Avenue Elementary School on Saturday, April 16.
The elementary school shows are for students, but the event at MJC is presented by Modesto Area Partners in Science and is free and open to the public. MJC West is at 2201 Blue Gum Ave., and the program starts at 7:30 pm.
Hagerman has performed at for NASA, appeared on “America’s Got Talent” and taken his science-based magic to thousands of schools across the country.
With more than 25 years of experience performing nationwide, Hagerman uses a mix of science experiments and magic tricks to make science, technology, engineering and math concepts exciting and accessible for students.
“Technically, I’m a modern-day wizard, but instead of using spells, I use science to create wonder,” Hagerman said in a press release. “My goal is to get kids excited about STEM by showing them that science and math are not just subjects — they can be magical.”
Research suggests that interactive and engaging shows like Hagerman’s can greatly enhance student interest and performance in STEM subjects.
“My show is designed to be one of the most entertaining live experiences students will ever have related to science and math,” Hagerman said in the news release. “By the time it’s over, they’ve learned a lot without even realizing it. I’m excited to share this experience with the students of Oakdale Joint Unified School District and Modesto City Schools district.”
