LearningQuest
LearningQuest is a nonprofit organization through the Stanislaus Literacy Centers. Though most of its programs and services are free for adults, it has a tutoring program for families with children who are dyslexic.
Referred to as KidsQuest, the program is open enrollment and free of charge. There are in-person, one-on-one tutoring sessions for children in grades two through six diagnosed with dyslexia or other language disorders.
Before tutoring begins, parents need to complete a short application form. After this is submitted, the student will be screened by the KidsQuest specialist to see if the Barton program would be an appropriate intervention. The Dyslexia Index Assessment cost $100.
The tutors are also recruited and trained using the Barton Reading and Spelling System.
After a student completes the screening and is accepted into the program, the child is placed on a waitlist until a volunteer tutor is available. If the student does not pass the screening, parents will receive resources to support their child’s progress, along with a scheduled date to be screened again in three to four months.
