Looking to attend college? What are the costs of higher education institutions near Modesto?
With the spring semester starting, colleges and universities throughout the state are beginning to process and finalize their course offerings for the next fall semester.
For students young and old, looking to go to — or back to — school, here are the prices of some public colleges and universities they can attend in the area.
Modesto Junior College
With tuition of $1,282 a year for in-state students, Modesto Junior College is an inexpensive option. Serving around 16,000 students in 2022, the community college offers around 202 degrees and certificates offered in 58 subjects.
According to the school, the cost of attendance ranges between $4,306 and $31,360 for the 2024-25 school year. That estimated cost takes into account tuition, living expenses and other personal needs a student will have.
The school also is a designated Hispanic Serving Institution, or HSI, with around 54.2% identifying as Hispanic in 2022. As for other demographics, around 32.1% identified as white, 5.7% identified as Asian and 3.4% identified as Black or African American.
California State University, Stanislaus
At Stanislaus State, tuition and campus fees cost around $8,226 a year for in-state students, one of the cheaper options for California State University system schools. Around 9,700 students enrolled at Stanislaus State in fall 2024.
Stanislaus State ranges its cost of attendance between $24,134 and $36,210. This takes into account tuition, living expenses and other personal needs a student will have.
Similar to Modesto Junior College, Stanislaus State is a designated HSI, with around 62% of students identifying as Hispanic in 2024. Around 18% identified as white, 9% as Asian and 3% as Black.
University of California at Merced
At UC Merced, tuition costs around $15,556 a year. It is one of the closest schools for Modesto students looking to attend a University of California school. Around 9,100 students enrolled at UC Merced in fall 2024.
UC Merced ranges its cost of attendance between $32,322 and $43,954. This takes into account tuition, living expenses and other personal needs a student will have.
The school is also designated an HSI. Around 54% of students identified as Hispanic, 10% of students as white, 22% as Asian and 5% as Black in 2024.
