The California State University Board of Trustees on Wednesday appointed the next president of Stanislaus State. She is coming from out of state but has decades of experience in the CSU system.

Britt Rios-Ellis currently serves as the provost and executive vice president of academic affairs at Oakland University, a public research university in Rochester, Michigan.

She will assume the Turlock university presidency on July 1 and will earn an annual salary of $370,319.

Prior to joining Oakland University, Rios-Ellis served as the founding dean of the College of Health Sciences and Human Services at California State University, Monterey Bay, from 2014-2020. She also worked as a faculty member in the department of health science at California State University, Long Beach, for 20 years.

Attending the University of Oregon, Rios-Ellis earned a bachelor’s degree in political science and Spanish, a master’s degree in health and fitness management, and a PhD in community health.

She said she is honored to get this position. “I am eager to get to know the Turlock and Stockton (where Stan State has a satellite campus) communities and work together to ensure that the positive impact of our students’ and the university’s overall success is felt profoundly throughout the region,” she said in a press release.

California State University Trustee Yammilette Rodriguez, the chair of the Stanislaus State Presidential Search Committee, said Rios-Ellis is an inspirational, compassionate and mission-driven leader.

“Her wide-ranging experience, student-centered approach and commitment to broader community engagement make her the ideal candidate to lead Stanislaus State in its next exciting chapter,” Rodriguez said in a press release.

Rios-Ellis will replace Interim President Susan Borrego, who has served in the role since the retirement of President Emerita Ellen Junn in summer 2023. Rios-Ellis will be the 13th president in this position.
