What are the top most popular majors at Stanislaus State? Here’s what new data shows

At Stanislaus State, students continue flocking to major in business administration. With around 1,524 students enrolled last semester, it has remained one of the most popular majors for more than four years.

According to data provided by the university, the remaining most popular majors are psychology, with around 1,299 students, liberal studies, with 752 students, criminal justice, with 611 students, and biological sciences, with 546 students enrolled in the majors.

The rankings were slightly different for the top five majors with the most graduates between the summer of 2022 and the spring of 2023.

Psychology had the most graduates, at 454. Business administration graduated 380, liberal studies graduated 236, criminal justice 167 and biological sciences 100.

“We take pride in the fact that our students and alumni help drive the Central Valley’s economy and are dedicated to serving their community and giving back,” said Stanislaus State spokeswoman Donna Birch Trahan.

According to a report from Indeed in June, three of the most popular Stanislaus State majors were on the list of 10 of the most popular majors for college students nationwide.

The article listed business as the third most popular major. The U.S. Bureau of Labor Statistics found the industry is projected to grow faster than the average for all occupations from 2022 to 2032. Some common jobs that graduates with this major go into include accountant, budget analyst and insurance claims adjuster.

The median annual wage for this group was $76,850 in May 2022, higher than the median annual wage for all occupations, $46,310.

Following business on the national trend of most popular majors were biology and biological sciences. Those who graduate with this major often become agriculture and food scientists, anthropologists and atmospheric scientists.

The median annual wage for this industry was $74,330 in May 2022, according to the U.S. Bureau of Labor Statistics.

Psychology ranked sixth, with overall employment of psychologists projected to grow 6% and social scientists and related workers projected to grow 5% from 2022 to 2032.

The median annual wage for psychologists was $85,330 in May 2022.

The liberal studies major at Stan State is a preprofessional track for teaching.

The median annual wage for educational instruction and library occupations was $57,490 in May 2022, with high school teachers and elementary school teachers making an average of $62,360 and $61,620.
